With their base in Radstock, many will be familiar with the Old Bakery Artists group which meets at the Fosseway Inn each month.
The Bank Holiday week saw them exhibit at The West Barn, Bradford on Avon, which is always a delightful venue to work from. Many of the more familiar artists from the group took part, but the group were pleased to introduce to their ranks Neale and Emma Mellersch who bring yet another aspect to this versatile group. Neale adds unusual landscapes presented in a fresh, contemporary way and Emma hand makes knitted items using fresh, contemporary colours and ideas.
Alongside stylish and yet very useful ceramics were original works in oil, watercolour and acrylics, in addition to prints, cards and items to suit all tastes and pockets.
There is no greater pleasure, I think, than presenting someone special with a beautifully hand-and locally-made, unique item, visiting such local groups when they exhibit is the ideal way to find these things and often meeting the artist that has created them. It’s worth knowing too that many artists will happily accept commissions, so don’t be afraid to discuss the possibilities with them.
This group continues to maintain an impressive calendar of exhibitions across the county, often including workshops as part of the event. If you missed them at the West Barn, their next event is at the Royal Scientific and Literary Institution on Queens Square, Bath starting on 25th September.
