Westfield Parish Council voiced its objections this week to the resubmitted planning application on land north of Fosseway Gardens for up to 73 dwellings.

Strong objections were raised, including the flooding risks, damage to the ecology and wildlife, in particular to bats, their habitat and food sources.

Chair of the Council, Geoff Fuller, commented: "There are fears that the road structure is not able to take extra traffic as the amount of houses, with approximately two cars per house, would create an extra 146 vehicles.

"The wildlife in that area would disappear forever – we do not want to turn Westfield into a concrete jungle, it would put a strain on the whole community. We need places for nature and places to enjoy the views and wildlife for many years to come."
