A PAULTON man has completed a marathon in memory of his brother raising vital funds for mental health charity Mind.
Dec Channon chose to run in memory of his brother, Jay (Jamie) who suffered mental health problems, completing it on what would have been Jamie’s 34th Birthday.
Ahead of the marathon effort he said: “Jamie was loved by so many and is missed every single day. He sadly lost his life following struggles with mental health and addiction, something far too many people experience, often quietly and alone.
“Mental health and addiction can be incredibly lonely journeys.

“I’ve chosen to run this marathon alone to reflect that reality, and to raise awareness and vital funds for people who need support.”
The marathon on July 11 finished at one of Jamie’s favourite places, The Red Lion in Paulton.
Dec undertook on the 26.2-mile challenge following months of dedicated training, running every mile in Jay’s memory.
Making the achievement even more remarkable, Dec completed the 26.2 miles in temperatures of more than 30°C, battling the intense heat with determination and resilience.
Supported by family, friends and members of the local community along the route, he crossed the finish line to an emotional welcome.

Dec has raised more than £3,000 for Mind, helping the charity continue its vital work supporting people experiencing mental health problems.
Dec and his family would like to thank everyone who donated, cheered him on, shared his fundraising page, or offered words of encouragement.
They said: “Every contribution has helped make a meaningful difference and ensured Jay’s memory continues to inspire others.
“It was a day filled with determination, love and community spirit, one that Jay would undoubtedly have been proud of.”
