CHILDREN from Peasedown Primary School have been recognised for their services to the community at a national award ceremony in London.
Six members of the school’s Mini Police Team were presented with an award from the High Sheriff’s Association on March 17.
Accepted on behalf of the entire team, they were congratulated for their commitment to improving the local community and working with PSCO’s from Avon and Somerset Police.
School headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: “We couldn’t be prouder!
“The children were asked to deliver a seven minute presentation on the work of the Mini Police, and what they’ve achieved in Peasedown St John since the programme was launched over nine years ago.

“They were the youngest children there and performed brilliantly.”
The Mini Police programme helps children build confidence, self-esteem, and life skills. It also helps children understand policing and community safety and builds trust between children and the police.
The initiative is a police engagement programme that’s been running successfully alongside the police for many years. Children must apply and be interviewed for the role.
They are each given a uniform and attend regular training sessions led by the PCSOs. Topics covered often include traffic and speed awareness with a visit from the local police speed enforcement team and first aid training.
“Peasedown St John Primary School’s Mini Police Team is one of just many community engagement activities that takes place throughout the week,” added Ms Noall. “We are keen to give children the opportunity to enhance their learning skills and try new things. It’s great for their educational experience and wellbeing.”
The National Crimebeat Awards hosts an annual awards ceremony on behalf of all High Sheriffs to recognise the most innovative and successful crime prevention projects carried out by young people from around England and Wales.
