WALES and West Utilities is working week commencing April 13 to resurface the carriageway on Silver Street in Chew Magna.

A temporary road closure will be put in place with works expected to be completed within five days.

Planned in conjunction with Bath & North East Somerset Highways, Silver Street will be closed throughout the duration of the works.

This resurfacing work follows upgrades to the gas network carried out by Wales and West Utilities last year.

The gas emergency and pipeline service has written to local residents advising on parking and emergency access arrangements. Motorists are advised to make alternative travel plans to avoid the area, with a diversion route clearly in place.

Wales and West Utilities reinstatement and performance manager, James Godfrey, is managing this work and said: “The resurfacing work in the Chew Manga area is needed to improve the condition of the carriageway following recent gas upgrade work and we advise motorists to make alternative travel plans to avoid the area.

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal and we apologise for any inconvenience that this road closure may cause.

“We are committed to keeping the gas flowing safely across our network and sustaining the highest standards of work, including the reinstatement of road surfaces.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community.

“We’d like to thank local residents and commuters for their patience while we continue to upgrade our network, supporting local homes and businesses today, and ensuring the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
