A new heritage trail has been launched in Peasedown St John - with eight new boards guiding the way.

It celebrates the people, places and stories that have helped shape the local area.

Each board has been designed to be explored individually, meaning residents and visitors can enjoy the trail at their own pace rather than needing to follow a fixed route.

The project was made possible thanks to local volunteers, who gave their time to research the history of the parish, source information and images, develop the content for each board, and support the grant applications needed to bring the idea to life.

Sam Nash, Clerk to Peasedown St John Parish Council, said: “This project is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when local people share their knowledge, time and enthusiasm for the place they call home. The Heritage Board Trail gives everyone the chance to discover more about the parish, whether they are taking a short walk, exploring with family, or simply stopping to find out more about a familiar location.”

Health and wellbeing organisation The Active Way helped fund the trail’s notice board stands. The project was developed to link the boards to walking routes, to encourage people to get outside and explore the parish on foot.

The Heritage Board Trail also encourages people to look beyond the modern streetscape and imagine what life may have been like in the parish’s recent and more distant past. QR codes on the boards provide access to additional digital information for those who would like to learn more at each site.

The main trail map, showing the locations of the eight boards, can be found on the side of Beacon Hall, opposite Beacon Field. From there, walkers can choose their own route through the parish, visiting the boards in any order.
