CHILDREN from Peasedown St John Primary School recently visited the American Museum in Bath, where they spent the afternoon learning about American geography, wildlife and culture.

Pupils from Year 4 were given the opportunity for an afternoon out to explore one of the local area’s most popular tourist attractions.

School headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: “It was a fantastic chance for our Year 4 pupils to take part in an exciting trip to Bath! As part of their new topic on America, they visited the American Museum and participated in a workshop based on the geography of the USA, as well as some of the animals that live there.

“They then handled interesting artefacts before exploring the museum and had a bit of fresh air in the gardens. I’m incredibly grateful to the team at the centre for making our school pupils and staff feel so welcome when they visited.

“Learning about the history of different cultures and counties is vital part of our curriculum here at Peasedown St John Primary School, so it’s fantastic to have a museum dedicated to the history of America right on our doorstep.”

Located on the outskirts of Bath, the American Museum and Gardens opened to the public in 1961 with the aim of showcasing American decorative arts and providing insight into American culture.

Today, the estate includes museum collections, gardens, an exhibition gallery and shop, stables, a coach house, and the American Garden Deli with a terrace overlooking the surrounding landscape. The centre operates as an independent charity and relies on support from the local community.
