Radstock Co-operative Society were delighted to host a visit from the Governor of the Bank of England, Andrew Bailey, on Tuesday, 16th February.
Mr Bailey began his term as the Governor of the Bank of England on 16th March 2020 and is based in London.
Central to his work are his visits outside of the City of London, where he meets with an array of consumers, charities and businesses across the country.
CEO of Radstock Co-operative Society, Don Morris, said: “We were honoured to be chosen as one of the Governor’s visits as it was a fantastic opportunity to discuss our business face to face, along with the current economic climate and our plans for the future.”
The visit included a trip to the Society’s Dairy Farm to see the rotary parlour and observe the milking process in action. The dairy is located at Manor Farm, inbetween Radstock and Frome, farming locally for over 100 years as part of the Radstock Co-operative Society.
The site covers an area of over 1,000 acres with recent developments expanding this further and increasing the herd to over 750 cows. Last year there was an installation of a 70-point carousel in the rotary milking parlour, at the time, this was the largest of its type in the country.
The milk produced here is distributed across the country as part of the National Co-operative milk supply. The introduction of this parlour has improved the herd’s wellbeing and created a calm environment which the cows have benefited from.
Don Morris continued: “Using new technology and automation has massively helped the business to grow. We are extremely proud of the improvements we have made and continue to make to the farm.”
