Barratt Homes says it is applying for up to twenty further homes at its Beecham Place site at Fosseway South, Midsomer Norton, following no commercial interest in operating the care home that was originally planned.
Outline permission for the wider Fosseway site was granted by Bath and North East Somerset Council for 165 homes, a sixty-bed care home, retail/business/community space, along with two points of access and public open space in November 2013, with a Reserved Matters application for the residential element subsequently being approved in January 2015. Therefore, the principle of development on the wider site has already been agreed.
The Council granted permission to take forward the residential element of the scheme, without the inclusion of the care home site, which was to be marketed to care home providers as a condition of the outline approval.
A spokesperson for Barratt Homes said: “The care home section of the site has been actively marketed to care providers for the previous nine months, which is over and above the six months which was prescribed by Bath and North East Somerset Council.
“However, to date, there has been no commercial interest in operating a care facility at this location.
“We are therefore seeking the approval of a full planning application for twenty homes on this section of the Fosseway site, of which, six will be affordable homes.
“We have taken account of the feedback received during our discussions with local representatives and have now submitted an application to Bath and North East Somerset Council for their consideration.”
Barratt Homes says it is encouraging local residents to make comments on the application through Bath and North East Somerset Council’s planning website. The planning application reference number is: 17/01453/FUL.
