Ex-Councillor, local resident and B&NES Alderman, Terry Reakes, says he will be calling upon Radstock Town Council at their meeting on Monday next week to consider the possibility of the last green space at Waterloo Road being registered as a Town Green.
Mr Reakes, who is strongly opposed to the proposals for a new Doctor’s Surgery, Health and Community centre at Waterloo Road, Radstock, told The Journal this week: “As I understand it, ‘The Growth and Infrastructure plan 2013’ and other relevant legislation states appropriate open land can be registered as a Town or Village Green.
“Therefore, when the application comes before Radstock Town Council for consideration, I will ask Councillors at public access time to instruct the Town Council officers to seek legal advice on registering the land as a ‘Town Green’. The Open Spaces Society would be an organisation to approach, as it offers invaluable help to local authorities, societies and individuals on this complex issue.
“Every attempt must be made to save this open space for posterity and the backing of Radstock Town Council is imperative, as it would give the process impetus – time is of the essence.”
