MP Anna Sabine has called on the Royal Mail to urgently improve the reliability of postal deliveries across Frome and East Somerset, following widespread concerns from residents about missing and significantly delayed post.

More than 100 residents responded to a survey carried out by the MP on postal services in the constituency, with reports of letters arriving just once or twice a week, and some residents going two or three weeks without receiving any post at all.

Residents also reported delays to important NHS appointment letters, bills, parking notices, insurance documents and other time-sensitive correspondence.

Sabine said: “I have been raising concerns about Royal Mail deliveries with the organisation for some time, and it is incredibly frustrating to still be hearing the same problems from constituents two years later.

“Many residents were very keen to praise their local posties, who they see working incredibly hard under difficult circumstances. The concerns are about staffing, management and the organisation of the service.

“Royal Mail is an important part of our communities and people need to know that when an important letter is sent, it will actually arrive on time.

“I have written to Royal Mail asking for a clear plan for how it intends to improve the service across my constituency. I raised these concerns two years ago, and residents deserve to see meaningful improvements.”

The MP has asked Royal Mail to respond to the findings of her survey and set out what action it will take to improve the reliability of postal deliveries across Frome and East Somerset.

Her comments come as the Royal Mail has announced plans to restructure the postal service cutting 2,500 jobs at head office and other supporting roles by the end of 2027.

Royal Mail has said that frontline postal workers, including posties and drivers, will not be affected by the plans.
