On Thursday, 14th December, Year Six students from Peasedown St John Primary School visited Dorothy House Hospice Outreach Centre, in Peasedown St John, to perform carols at the charity’s weekly coffee morning.

Lynn Porch, Community and Outreach Nurse Co-ordinator, said: “I run a Coffee morning at our Dorothy House Hospice Outreach Centre in Peasedown St John for anyone affected with a life-limiting condition. We have up to forty people attending each week who are patients, carers and those that have been bereaved. They receive support from each other and from staff at the centre.

“Last year, Peasedown St John Primary School children attended our Christmas Coffee morning to sing, and this year they asked their choir teacher if they could do the same. We are thrilled to have them come along and sing, as it will be magical for those who attend the centre.

“Christmas is an emotional time for those who attend, but they are really looking forward to the school singing. It is fantastic that the children have chosen to do this; last year they were very engaging with our patients.”

Myra Barretto, music teacher at Peasedown St John Primary School, said: “We are currently in the midst of seventeen performances at this time of year! Today we brought along some of the Year Six members of the choir.

It was the children who asked us if they could come back – they must have enjoyed themselves last time.”

The attending patients, carers and bereaved were offered tea, cakes and non-alcoholic mulled wine. The Peasedown St John Dorothy House Hospice Outreach Centre opened in 2013, in memory of Jackie Williams.
