Liberal Democrats are welcoming news that the Radstock Children's Centre is set to continue to use the library building after the library moves into Radco.

Radstock Councillor, Simon Allen (Liberal Democrat), commented: "I am glad that we are able to reassure local residents that the Council does not plan to sell the library building when library services are moved into the Radco building later this year.

"This will mean that the Children's Centre will have more space available, Children's Centre staff will continue to run groups both in the former library building, in the new library within Radco and staff will benefit from increasing their administration facilities."

Liberal Democrat campaigner, Nettie Williams, added: "I believe local residents will welcome the expansion of the Children's Centre. There is a high demand for Children's Centre services in our town and this demonstrates B&NES' commitment to children and families in Radstock, despite having to make savings."

Councillor Dine Romero (Liberal Democrat, Southdown), Cabinet Member for Children's Services, said: "This is great news for the Children's Centre and great news for Radstock residents. We will now work with Children's Centre staff to identify how to best use the additional space we will be making available once the library relocates."

Apart from the Children's Centre having more space, the other proposed benefits of moving the library into the Radco building will be increased opening hours, the convenience of colocation beside other services, such as the Post Office, and encouraging more people to use the library who may not do so currently.

The Council is currently consulting on exactly how services will be offered in the new library space. The consultation closes on 18th July and it is expected that the library will move from its current location in The Street to the Radco building by the end of the year.
