Residents and businesses in Radstock have another chance to give their views on an action plan to revitalise the town centre which could include a new community hub, a space for outdoor events and bringing vacant buildings back into use.

Following feedback received in a consultation in autumn last year, Bath & North East Somerset Council is asking people to have their say on a shortlist of specific ideas which also includes parking and pedestrian improvements, more public toilet provision and tree planting.

Radstock is the first to benefit from new town centre regeneration action plans funded by £750,000 from the West of England Combined Authority’s Housing and Regeneration Enabling Fund to create regeneration action plans and masterplans for Keynsham, Midsomer Norton, Twerton and Radstock.

The Radstock plan will improve the vitality and viability of the town centre, in particular by bringing vacant buildings back into active use and helping community organisations to find new premises to meet their needs. It is being developed by the Council in partnership with Radstock Town Council.

The shortlist of project ideas is:

  • Working with Radstock Town Council to develop Trinity Methodist Church as a community hub

  • Radstock cultural programme

  • Event space for hosting outdoor events

  • Tree planting in the town centre

  • Parking, signage & pedestrian improvements

  • Improvement of the town centre offer: public toilet provision, promotion of the historic environment, a better mix of shops, improved public realm, streetscape and digital infrastructure.

  • Management of vacant properties including temporary uses for vacant shops

  • Site improvements

People can comment on the plans from today (February 21st) by completing an online survey which runs until March 7th. There will also be a display in Radstock Library between those dates.

There is also a drop-in session at the library from 1pm to 6pm on February 28th where people can talk to project officers and find out more.

Councillor Mark Roper, cabinet member for Economic Development, Regeneration and Growth, said: “This is a further chance for residents and businesses to help shape Radstock town centre for the future. The renewal of the high street will create potential for increased tourism and footfall in the town, supporting local trade and protecting its heritage assets. We look forward to hearing from the community on how you think Radstock should be regenerated to best meet everyone’s needs.”

Masterplans for Keynsham, Midsomer Norton and Twerton will take place during 2023-25.
