Radstock Town Council have been asked to consider looking in to a feasibility study for mine water heat sourcing that will ‘decarbonise’ our community.

Using the town’s natural resources could put an end to fossil fuels locally, says a resident, who approached the Council to ask B&NES if they would sponsor the study which would decide whether underwater energy could be harnessed in future.

He said that in a similar report eleven years ago, B&NES Council commissioned a “heat map” to look at the potential across the region – and one of the places identified was Radstock. He added that Government money available through the Heat Network Delivery Unit, which runs out in December, could discover the potential for Geothermic district heating.

B&NES reportedly has experience in this area, having used this source of energy in the Riverside development in Bath. Radstock Town Council was one of the local Councils to declare a Climate Emergency before the pandemic. It was pointed out that forming a Working Group to seriously look at local resources would mean positive action could be taken to back up this statement.
