Organisations in Bath have launched a fresh appeal for people to be safe while celebrating the festive season.
The River Safety Group has issued the following advice:
If you have been drinking and your route home takes you past the water, please find an alternative route or use a taxi service.
Drink a glass of water
between each alcoholic drink.
Be aware that the river can get extremely cold at this time of year, which, when coupled with alcohol, could limit even strong swimmers.
Advice has also been issued for if you come across someone in difficulty. At no point are you to put yourself in danger and it is advised not to enter the water. Shout for help and call 999, asking for the Fire and Rescue Service. It is also recommended that river safety cabinets alongside the river bank are used to help those in trouble while waiting for the rescue services to arrive.
