A cancer charity is set to be over £1,600 better off, thanks to the amazing efforts of pupils, parents and staff at Trinity Church School, Radstock.
Every child in the school braved the cold and put on their running shoes, completing their own Race for Life for Cancer Research UK.
Parents and friends also took part in the well-supported one-mile event that was held in the school grounds.
Luckily, the heavy rain from earlier in the week stayed away and, with their minds on supporting others, hardly any of the runners noticed how bitterly cold it was.
The school’s PTFA were on hand to serve hot drinks and cakes, with all proceeds going to Cancer Research UK.
With so many people’s lives being touched by cancer, the school’s staff decided to back this worthy cause and a Race for Life Team was set up to organise the event.
All of the children at the school then received medals to mark their achievements.
Headteacher, Michelle Parsons, said: “The generosity of the community for such a worthy cause was overwhelming. It was great to see the children enjoying themselves and being well supported by their family and friends.”
Andrew Dix, KS2 Joint Deputy Head, said: “The children had an amazing time and ran as far as they could. Our initial target was £500, so we smashed this effort – and it was very well supported by parents. The teachers have taken part in the Macmillan coffee morning and we have all known families touched by cancer, so we hope to do some more fundraising in future.”
