The band today is a vibrant group of players of all ages and backgrounds, living or working in the mid-Somerset area. Our repertoire includes music from the golden big band era of the 1940s, including Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Louis, Ella and Sinatra and also contemporary funk and soul style music such as pieces by Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, and Imelda May.

We have recently undergone a change in musical directorship, where we said a sad goodbye to Jo Sykes. We are now run entirely from within the band, with Clare Sydenham taking on the role leading the band and Tony Scragg working behind the scenes to keep everything going, as well as playing in the band.

The band has thrived with this new internal directorship and have had an exceptionally busy few weeks. We have Played at the Jubilee Beacon Lighting in Holcombe, the Bath & West Show, the Jubilee celebrations in Wells and kicking off the annual Collet Park day in Shepton Mallet. All of these were great events, even in challenging weather conditions at times!

Coming up, we are looking forward to playing at the Barton St David Carnival on 16th July and Shepton Mallet Church Fete on 23rd July.

We rehearse every Monday evening in the Binegar Memorial Hall and perform regularly at local events. We welcome enquiries from event organisers and local musicians wishing to join the band. In particular at the moment we are looking for a drummer and trombone players.
