Volunteers at Somer Valley FM have been reeling with excitement since finding out that they’d been nominated for an award at this year’s ARIAS.

The ARIAS are the UK Audio and Radio Industry Awards, hosted by The Radio Academy and presented to the most outstanding examples of content in the media world. Judged by a panel made up of over 200 industry professionals, it’s dubbed as a ‘huge accolade’ just to be nominated in one of the twenty-seven categories.

Somer Valley FM is one of six nominated for ‘Community Station of the Year’, which was introduced last year. According to the criteria, judges look for a ‘sense of place coming through the output, on a station that is rooted in the local community or the community of interest it serves’.

Nominees were announced on Tuesday 26th March at a special event held at News UK, London.

Dom Chambers is a director who has led the radio station from the start. He said: “It is fantastic to get this industry recognition as we celebrate 15 years as a radio station for the Midsomer Norton and Radstock area. The sound of Somer Valley FM immerses the listener in the cultures, communities, towns, villages and landscape of the Somer Valley in North East Somerset.”

Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony, held at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane on Thursday 7th May.
