Bryn Hawkins, chairman of the Somerset Miners Welfare Trust, presented a 3-foot replica metal miner of the full size ones appearing around Somerset to Mary Allinson who now lives near York.

Mary is the daughter of Ralph Macdonald, the manager of the last two coal mines Kilmersdon and Writhlington, which closed fifty years ago.

The SMWT are delighted the 3-foot Somerset’s metal miners are being installed in gardens around the country.
