The Bank Holiday weekend is another opportunity to visit the Museum and Pill Box at Midsomer Norton Heritage Railway Station at Silver Street.
The Museum has reported a record number of visitors since the Closure Commemoration Steam weekend on 5th and 6th March.
Spokesman, Barry Bax, has counted over 2,000 visitors of all ages, up until the end of the Easter holidays. He said: “This is great news, as the museum is going through the national accreditation process guided by Local Museums Officer, Elizabeth Neathey.
“We have been delighted to have been offered a number of new exhibits by our visitors, both on loan and as gifts. Some unusual and baffling items have been identified, with the help of our knowledgeable visitors. These include a fog object, which is a short, brightly painted post used by a signal man to gauge if fog is thick enough to constitute a hazard.”
This year, the Gardens Team have added a ‘dig for victory’ garden by the Pill Box. The potatoes planted there are ‘Home Guard’ and ‘King Edwards’ which are varieties dating from the war years.
This weekend, the museum at the station will be open and visitors can take a trip around the station to view the ticket office and shop, signal box and greenhouse and of course the museum and Pill Box. There will be an opportunity to buy plants grown in the greenhouse, gifts and books from the shop and the café in the buffet car will be open. There will hopefully be train trips pulled by the Diesel locomotive on the Sunday.
There will be a full passenger service commencing at 11 a.m., with trains running every half hour. In addition, the Sentinel steam loco will be carrying out demonstration runs.
