To meet the growing popularity of walking, Timsbury Parish Council is sponsoring a further book of circular walks produced by three of its villagers.
Over a thousand copies of Peter Bradshaw, Larry Cunningham and Sue Fraser’s first book, Twenty Circular Walks In and Around Timsbury, have been sold, and for this new book, they have gone a little further afield.
“People from all around seemed to love the first book and a second that we were asked to produce for Radstock Museum”, explained Sue Fraser. “So, this time, we have widened the area covered and chosen some of our favourite walks within a few miles of Timsbury.”
The new book, Twenty Circular Walks Close to Timsbury, mirrors the format of the first two with clear directions, maps, information about points of interest on each route and colour photographs.
“We seem to have hit on a format which suits a wide range of people,” said Larry Cunningham. “With some longer walks for serious ramblers and shorter alternatives for those just keen to stretch their legs.”
The walks range from 2.1 to nine miles in length, with road directions to the starting point for each walk. “There are so many potentially enjoyable and interesting walks close by that it wasn’t easy to decide which to include”, stressed Peter Bradshaw. “So, we have concentrated on ones that combine attractive scenery with historical interest.”
“We are very fortunate that Peter, Larry and Sue have produced their books voluntarily so that, once printing costs are recouped, all proceeds go into Parish Council funds for the benefit of the village”, explained Veronica Packham, Chairman of Timsbury Parish Council. She added: “I’m sure that this new book will once again help people to explore and enjoy the beautiful countryside that surrounds us.”
Copies of the new book are available locally from 1st April from The Hub, Connies, and Health & More in Timsbury, Radstock Museum and the Farmborough Community Shop.
