Somervale School held its annual Celebration Evening on Tuesday, 18th November, to formally congratulate each and every student who has won an award. Over 100 pupils were recognised for their continued hard work and contribution to the school.
As well as celebrating the school's current students, the school also welcomed back its Year 11 leavers from the last academic year, who came to collect their GCSE certificates. Special awards were also given for each subject. These included the 'Lisa Rupprecht Prize for Endeavour', which was presented to Adam Pike, for his unfaltering ability to overcome a range of difficulties, beyond the boundaries of normal school life which is usually experienced by pupils.
The 'Educational Achievement Award' was presented to Sam Windless, in recognition of his educational achievement he made at GCSE and the fantastic commitment he put in. The 'BMT Defence Award for Technology/Science' went to Hollie Evans, for her hardworking ethos and her technical and practical working knowledge of graphic design and product development.
The 'Stewart's Award for PE' was awarded to Philippa Denning, for her unfaltering enthusiasm and participation within school PE clubs, strong leadership skills and her exceptional skill as a netball player. The 'Callum Stewart Award for PE and Academic Achievement' was presented to Jack Barter via a live video call by ex-pupil, Callum Stewart, who excelled in his time at the school in various sports and captained the England Schoolboys Football Team. He is now working at a top university in Austin, Texas. The 'Governors Award for Media Arts' went to Gabrielle Little, in recognition of her natural creative flair, boundless enthusiasm and ability in Media.
The 'Deputy Headteacher's Award' went to Connie Glover and the 'Headteacher's Award' was presented to Sam Clark, for their excellent contribution to the school community, hard work and engagement within the school.
Somervale School is extremely proud of the successes of so many of its pupils and states that this event is always a highlight in its calendar, where proud parents and staff can jointly celebrate the outstanding achievements of its pupils.
Headteacher, Alun Williams, said: "We are extremely proud of the successes of all our students and like to find ways of celebrating successes whenever we can. I'm sure the parents who attended the evening to see their children receiving all these awards shared my sense of pride."
