The team behind the Go Blue for Lucia campaign are to honour the late teen’s birthday by holding a sewing event at Writhlington School this coming Saturday in order to help children receiving treatment in hospital by creating and donating specially designed pyjamas.

The Go Blue for Lucia campaign began after teenager, Lucia Robinson, was diagnosed with cancer. She, along with her family and other supporters, worked tirelessly raising money for terminally ill children whilst battling the disease herself, winning local accolades and raising thousands for hospitals and hospices.

Sadly, Lucia passed away last summer, but to honour what would have been her seventeenth birthday, the Go Blue for Lucia campaign have come up with the Pyjamathon event. The team are looking for anyone who would like to spend the day with them at Writhlington School making specially designed pyjamas that fasten in a way that makes examinations and treatments easier and less stressful for sick children. The target is to make 100 pairs of pyjamas during the day, with all the materials being donated by the Go Blue campaign. If you have sewing experience, that will be much appreciated, but there will be helpers on hand to teach those with little or no sewing experience and plenty of jobs that don’t involve sewing.

Lucia’s mum, Melina, said: “I think this will be the best way to celebrate Lucia’s 17th birthday and remember that it will be a year that she has been gone – but not really. We are looking forward to seeing you. It will be open for everyone. Please come along if you carry the Blue within.”
