Last Friday was 'Flourescent Friday', if you were taking part in this year's 'Ted's Big Day Out'. The annual event, which is now fundraising for the RUH's Space for Cancer Care Campaign, sees many local businesses and schools taking part in teddy and cake-related fun to raise vital cash for our local hospital.
This year's theme, given away by the name, was for all things flourescent, with luminous jackets and clothing everywhere to be seen! Our Journal photographer, Dave Sherborne, visited a few local businesses to find out how they were raising money on the day.
The Space for Cancer Care Campaign aims to raise £5 million over the next four years towards the cost of building a £20.5 million pioneering new Cancer Centre at the RUH, which will balance clinical expertise with the provision of a nurturing and therapeutic environment. The first phase of the appeal raised £650,000 to purchase a state-of-the-art Gamma-CT Scanner. Over the years, the Forever Friends Appeal has raised over £10 million for RUH equipment and facilities.
