Norton Hill School students are taking part in a non-stop music endurance fundraising event which aims to raise over £2,000 for the school’s two chosen charities for 2017 – Willberry Wonder Pony and Alzheimer’s Research UK. Fifty students from the school’s Quantock House are giving up their Friday night to take part in a music endurance charity sleepover.
Students are raising sponsorship from family and friends to ‘endure’ the Justin Timberlake song ‘Don’t Stop the Feeling’ on repeat for twenty hours – quite a
challenge!
Starting at 4 p.m. this Friday, 28th April, the event will run through overnight, finishing at midday on Saturday, 29th April. After an evening of activities and games, students (and staff!) will be sleeping on roll mats on classroom floors, trying to get some well-earned rest (with the song still playing!) before getting up to see the event through to midday.
The local business community has truly thrown its weight behind the fundraising event. Event T-shirts will be provided by Radstock Cooperative Society, and food and drink to see everyone through the event is being donated by Whitstone’s Fish and Chips in Westfield, and Norton Hill Catering.
Alun Williams, Headteacher at Norton Hill School, said: “I am so proud of our students for getting involved in something like this and raising a lot of money for the school’s
nominated charities.
“On an annual basis, the students at Norton Hill choose charities for their House to support and are able to donate thousands of pounds each year to their
selected charities. However, this is a unique event and I’m sure there will be some enjoyment as well as the endurance element!”
Katherine Jubb, Head of Quantock House, said: “I am extremely proud of the Quantock students who are taking part in this challenge. Their enthusiasm to raise funds for such worthy causes is commendable, not to mention their willingness to spend a whole night in school!
“I would also like to thank the staff who are giving up their free time to organise and supervise the event. I am sure that much fun will be had and that we will raise lots of money. Well done Quantock!”
