Paulton’s Senior Citizen Luncheon Club celebrated Christmas in style recently, with a fabulous Christmas lunch. Instead of lunch being cooked by Celia Slocombe and her team, it was cooked by another set of volunteers, but this time, it was staff from Tesco.

This luncheon club would not take place but for Celia Slocombe, helped by June Drake and her team of volunteers, who have been providing lunches for Senior Citizens on the first Wednesday of every month for the past four years. With effortless efficiency, two course meals are provided for around forty senior citizens every month.

Celia said: “I love doing it and I really enjoy providing the meals. We give people a

really good time, with good food, a raffle draw and bingo.”

This year (and last year) volunteers from Tesco, led by Beckie Eschle, cooked the Christmas lunch. Beckie said: “We want to be involved in the community, and it gives Celia a chance to enjoy a meal – instead of cooking it!”

Beckie added: “I’d like to thank the Tesco staff, many who gave up their free time to help, including Anne Hale, Jo Carter, Tracey Geild, Brian Matthews, Lee Russell, Corrina Leggett and Sarah Dobson.”

To round off the celebratory lunch, schoolchildren from Paulton Infant School sang Christmas songs and carols to the delight of the senior citizens. Specially invited guests, B&NES Councillors John Bull and Liz Hardman, said they thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
