Visitors to The Bishop’s Palace and Gardens in Wells will once again be celebrating the magic of the Christmas season this December with garden Illuminations, festive decorations, workshops, Father and Mother Christmas, music and delicious food on offer.

The rooms of the Medieval Palace building will be decked out in their Christmas finery with seasonal foliage from the Palace gardens creating stunning adornments to complement the historic interiors.

Visitors to the Entrance Hall will be greeted with a roaring fire and invited to explore the rooms of the Palace, which will also include the return of the popular local Schools Eco-Exhibition.

Outside, visitors can explore the magical inner gardens which will be illuminated with festive decorations and lights during special late-night openings including 1st (Member’s Only), 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st December. The Illuminations begin at 3.30pm until 7.30pm on those dates, with the last entry at 7pm.

The Glastonbury Male Voice Choir will also be on hand to entertain visitors at a Christmas Carol Concert within the beautifully decorated thirteenth-century Chapel on Tuesday 5th December (6.30pm) and creative types may be tempted by two festive workshops – Folk Carols on Saturday, 9th December and Wreath Making on Sunday, 10th December.

Storytellers will be sprinkling some Christmas magic with festive tales and seasonal stories on 8th, 19th, 20th, 21st and 22nd December. Great for big and little kids alike, no booking is required.

Entrance to all events and activities (excluding the concert and workshops) is included with any standard admission to The Bishop’s Palace which allows for twelve months of return visits on any normal sightseeing day.
