Norton Hill students celebrate a record breaking set of examination results at GCSE following the fantastic A level outcomes last week.

Following two years of teacher assessments, external exams have returned and Norton Hill are celebrating an astonishing set of GCSE results, which sees an improvement even on the previous record set in 2017.

With nearly 300 children collecting results, it was evident, almost immediately, that the students had performed phenomenally well despite all the difficulties they have faced over the course of the pandemic.

Today witnessed the highest ever percentage of children achieving a grade 4 in English at 94% and 86% of the whole cohort achieved the same in Mathematics. Over 80% were awarded two grade 4’s in Science and initial progress measures suggest we are likely to improve on our best previous benchmark. Alongside these, the highest Dance, Drama and Food Technology results the school have ever had contributed to the success for many.

Pupil premium students again produced some excellent results and progress has matched thatof non-pupil premium students nationally.

Students with special educational needs excelled once more with progress exceeding the rest of the cohort, which is particularly impressive.

Headteacher, Gordon Green said, “It was wonderful welcoming the students into school to collect their results and even more pleasing to witness the overwhelming out pouring of joy when they had exceeded their highest expectations. I am immensely proud of their achievements and would like to thank all the staff and parents/carers who have worked in partnership with us to support them achieve such exceptional grades”.

The list of notable successes is long and indeed some of the most impressive performances occurred throughout the ability range but it would be remiss of us not to acknowledge Charlotte M, Alex R and Daisy E who were awarded nine grade 9’s, nine grade 9’s and a grade 8, and eight grade 9’s and a grade 6 respectively. The class of 2022 have set the new bar!
