Next week sees the return of National Theatre Live’s programme with a broadcast of Terence Rattigan’s masterpiece, The Deep Blue Sea, at Midsomer Norton Town Hall on Thursday, 1st September at 7 p.m.
By making use of the latest satellite broadcast technology, the live screening gives local audiences a chance to catch this critically acclaimed production of Terence Rattigan’s masterpiece from its sell-out run in London’s National Theatre.
Set in London in 1952, when Hester Collyer is found by her neighbours in the
aftermath of a failed suicide attempt, the story of her
tempestuous affair with a former RAF pilot and the breakdown of her marriage to a High Court judge begins to emerge. With it comes a portrait of need, loneliness and long-repressed passion. Behind the fragile veneer of post-war civility burns a brutal sense of loss and longing.
Carrie Cracknell’s critically acclaimed new production has received five-star reviews in The Times and Time Out and stars Helen McCrory (Peaky Blinders) playing one of the greatest female roles in contemporary drama. Tom Burke (War and Peace) also features.
The NT Live programme then continues with a live screening of The Threepenny Opera on Thursday, 22nd September. For tickets: www.ticketsource.co.uk/mnct or phone: 01761 419133.
