Following our story in December, local people are being urged to sign a petition calling for a Government debate on funding for more research into brain tumours.

Local businesswoman, Sondra Hopkins, from Peasedown St John, has been backing the appeal for people across the county to sign the petition, as she raises awareness of the disease which claimed the life of her son, George Michael Harrison, who was just 32.

The e-petition highlighting the lack of Government investment, quickly gained momentum when it was launched but may not meet the 100,000 signatures needed by 3rd February to trigger a House of Commons debate. The total is currently around 61,725.

Sondra said: “We have a real chance to bring about change here. If the petition reaches 100,000 names by 3rd February it could lead to a House of Commons debate. This would be a great milestone on our journey and a ray of hope for the 16,000 people who are diagnosed with a brain tumour each year.
