We had an overwhelming amount of submissions for last week’s Mystery Photograph, kindly supplied by Grant Johnson, taken over Radstock.

Well done to the following people for guessing last week’s photograph correctly: Wendy White, Graham Davis, Paul Hancock, Simon Chard, Vince Gill, Tony Clarke, Jeff Parsons, Paul Kirkwood, Val Rogers, Jonathan Griffin, Roy Barnes, Les Box and Hannah Selway, Katie Thayer, Valerie Rogers, Ian Beeho, Richard Edwards, Alan and Norma Norris.

Thank you to Eric Brain who wrote in to say: “I have been studying this weeks picture most of the day and have decided that it’s a view of Radstock looking about North East with Clandown in the far background, taken from behind Ludlow’s Colliery with the tall chimney of Middle Pit to the right of centre.

“Between the two collieries, one can just discern the former Radstock Market hall roof and the distinctive façade. Also evident is the shop with the sunblind down and to it’s right the Radstock Hotel, still much the same today.”

Many thanks to Dave Seddon who said: “The photo shows the centre of Radstock with Ludlows Colliery in the foreground, the Waldegrave Arms and Middle Pit in the centre and Clandown in the distance.

“At a rough guess I would say that the pic dates from the 1920’s.”
