The February half term holiday at Somerset Coalfield Life at Radstock Museum will be out of this world, with an ’outer space’ theme all week.

Running from Saturday, 15th until Sunday, 23rd February, children can go on a ‘Planet Pursuit’ to discover all the planets in the solar system hidden around the museum. At the end of which, there is a prize!

On Thursday, 20th February from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, the museum’s Education Team volunteers will be hosting ‘Cosmic Crafts’, whereby children will be able to make rockets, flying saucers, alien masks and other space-themed arts and crafts.

Especially for the holidays, the volunteers are staffing the museum so that it can open for longer: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday opening hours will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the Virtual Reality Coal Mine Ride available from 11.30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

On Thursday 20th, the museum will be open as usual from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. with the ‘Cosmic Crafts’ event in the morning.

On Monday, 17th February, why not come and find out all about Victorian kitchen gadgets with Museum Chair, Nick Hall. You can handle them and see how they would have been used in the Victorian days.

Local storyteller and Museum Trustee, Martin Horler, will be back for storytime on Wednesday, 19th February, with two time slots, 11 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and 12 noon to 12.30 p.m.

Radstock Museum and its community partner, Thatcher + Hallam, are working towards becoming environmentally sustainable organisations. With this in mind, Thatcher and Hallam have kindly sponsored plastic-free toys for the museum’s children’s trail prizes.

The quality wooden spinning top prizes on offer come with star stickers for the children to decorate them.
