A plea is being made by the organisers of Midsomer Norton’s biggest annual event, who are asking for support from within the local community due to the great success of Midsomer Norton Carnival.
Midsomer Norton and District Carnival Association is calling for people to come along and find out more at the charity’s AGM on Tuesday, 28th March at 7.30 p.m. in Midsomer Norton Town Hall.
Midsomer Norton Carnival was founded in 1948 in order to bring cheer to the community following the hardships of the Second World War and since then, has been a big and important part of community life. Carnival in Midsomer Norton has undergone some major changes since 2014, and has now returned to the town’s High Street, where crowds of up to 10,000 people enjoy the illuminated spectacular.
The event is organised by a small team of volunteers, who need more people to join them to help with the additional workload that has come with the recent success. Chairman, Steve Collins, said: “We want to involve more people who live and work in Midsomer Norton and desperately need help to make sure the event is successful and sustainable year after year.
“The benefits of the carnival go to Midsomer Norton as it attracts thousands of people to the town each year, but we cannot succeed without the support of the traders, sponsors and people who live and work here.”
“Last year’s carnival was absolutely brilliant, and we are very grateful to everyone who made the night a success. This year we hope to repeat that success, but to do so, we need more help from local people.”
