This week, Radstock Cinema announced its winter cinema season with a programme packed full of box office hits. Bridget Jones’s Baby, The Girl on the Train and the sci-fi sensation, Arrival, are all on the bill for screenings at the Victoria Hall on the second weekend of the month.
The season kicks off with Absolutely Fabulous on Saturday, 14th January at 7.30 p.m. Fans of the BBC TV series will be delighted to see Edina and Patsy back in action and aging disgracefully. After accidently killing super model, Kate Moss, they flee to the south of France, where they hope to live the high life forever more.
The family matinee at 4.30 p.m. is Pete’s Dragon, a charming re-make of the
Disney classic about an orphan and his best friend, Elliot, who just so happens to be a dragon. Later in the season families can look forward to screenings of the beautiful animation Kubo and the Two Strings and the Harry Potter spin off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
After a successful launch last year, Radstock Film Festival returns on 11th and 12th March, with four great films screened over one weekend. “The Film Festival was really popular last year,” says Victoria Hall’s programme co-ordinator, Caroline Green. “Over 200 people attended a screening, with many visiting our cinema for the first time and we signed up several new volunteers.”
Radstock Cinema is run by volunteers with the help of Victoria Hall staff. A new training programme for young cinema volunteers will be starting soon, thanks to funding from Radstock and Westfield Big Local’s Dragon’s Den. “We want to involve local children and young people in running the family matinee screenings. They will get to choose the films, help with publicity and assist front-of house with selling tickets and stewarding.
“They can even learn how to project the films. Full training will be provided and young volunteers get a free ticket to see the film – this is a great opportunity for young film fans,” adds Caroline. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact: 01761 438885.
