Welton Church Runners are putting on three more free timed 5k events in the park in Midsomer Norton.
Unfortunately the efforts to get a parkrun in Midsomer Norton have come to an end after four years of hard work. Despite the course being designed and built to the specifications provided by parkrun representatives and approved by two ambassadors, in the end parkrun HQ declined to approve the proposed course without visiting the site. Whilst this is very disappointing the team are determined to offer something for the running, and not yet running community and planning to repeat the free timed 5k run in the park again that was tested in July. This will be on the first Saturday of the month and will initially be for three months.
They have been supported by the Midsomer Norton Town Trust and Bath & North-East Somerset Sport and Active Lifestyle Team. The event will be timed and Welton Church Runners will provide free refreshments at the Somer Centre. Everyone, whatever speed, including walkers, will be most welcome! Midsomer Norton Town Park 5k Run (Autumn) is a series of three, free community 5k runs. You can run, walk or volunteer. You can do 1, 2 or all 3! Come and have a drink afterwards in the Somer Centre.
The course consists of one small loop, one large loop followed by the zigzag, both sides of the Greenway and the batch path, return to the bottom meadow on the zigzag across and the celebration meadow to finish on the side of the Somer Centre.
Please give way to other park or Greenway users at all times, please keep to the left when there is two way running. The course is a mixture of tarmac path, grass, mud (depending on how much rain we have had!) and hard packed trails with uneven ground and slippery or uneven surfaces: www.tinyurl.com
In addition Welton Church Runners (and walkers) continues to meet every Saturday morning at 9am.
The group is open to anyone (runners and walkers) and help can be given to anyone interested in completing the Couch to 5k course.
