Westfield buried a time capsule to commemorate the first year of the Parish just before Christmas.

Included within the capsule are contributions from Westfield's voluntary groups, churches, charities and together with some everyday items, to give a flavour of life in 2012. There was included, of course, an edition of The Journal, which featured the much-loved annual illuminated carnival in Westfield on its front cover.

Chair of the Parish Council, Cllr Geoff Fuller, said: "This is a great time for Westfield – in fifty years' time, the stone is to be moved and the capsule opened to show people what it was like in and around Westfield at the time.

"I give thanks to all those who contributed towards the capsule. Although you see stones placed as you enter other parishes and villages, we thought a stone in the centre of Westfield to commemorate the burial of the time capsule and the planting of the living Christmas Tree, gives a mark to the centre of Westfield."

The commemorative stone is to be embedded with a plaque, naming all who contributed to the capsule and the living Christmas Tree which stands behind it. This will be unveiled in a small ceremony shortly.
