Trustees at the Somerset and Dorset Railway at Midsomer Norton Station were forced to cancel last Sunday’s Joyce and Jinty steam day, due to the sudden snow storm.

Unfortunately, it was as much to do with the state of the roads approaching the station, and the build-up of snow on the platforms, as it was to any problems with operating the trains.

Station Volunteers driving the trains have a strict protocol based on Network Rail rules for the incidence of snow and other safety issues. Although Sunday’s event was cancelled, they are pleased to be able to report that trains will be running at Midsomer Norton Station on Saturday, March 24th from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Visitors are welcome.

Operations Director, Graham Findley, said: “Fortunately, we have visiting steam locomotive ‘Jinty’ 47406 until next weekend, so we can run her for a further day on Saturday.

“It was a shame we were unable to run the trains. Although the station looked very pretty in the snow, the safety of visitors and passengers is of paramount importance and so we felt we had to cancel last Sunday’s event.”
