Camvale Tennis Club, based in Paulton on the Purnell Sports Ground, has just celebrated its 70th anniversary, making it one of the oldest tennis clubs in Somerset.
Originally called Purnell Tennis Club, it changed its name after it was purchased by the existing members when the Purnell Printing Company sold its assets.
The club has approximately seventy adult members and thirty junior members. The cost of membership per year is one of the lowest in the District. Set in the Cam Valley, it is a lovely setting to enjoy playing tennis for young and old.
The club has just finished playing its fixtures in the Avon Lawn Tennis Summer League, running two Men’s league teams and one Ladies team.
The Men’s Firsts beat Almondsbury I 8-2 to gain promotion for four years running to Division 4 and not to be outdone. The Men’s Seconds beat Sodbury VI 10-0 to win Division 9.
The Men’s First team on Friday were Ryan Harris, Mark Goulding, Chris Goulding and Kyran Rotheram, with an average age of 19. The Men’s Second team consisted of Danny Edwards, Ansil Obern, Hugh Weeks and David Price.
Not to be outdone, the Ladies’ team also won, beating Bishop Sutton IV 10-0 to maintain their position in the Division 5 for another year.
Anyone wishing to make enquiries regarding membership please contact Hugh Weeks, Treasurer on 01761 233325.
