An unusually quiet week for Paulton on Thursday we played Frome Selwood at Norwest in the evening floodlit charity competition where we won on one rink but unfortunately could not replicate this on the other four.
The club finals were held over the weekend. In glorious sunshine with just enough of a breeze to prevent the contestants from over heating, which considering how many games there were to get through at least allowed them to be completed without mishap, some of the contestants having to play several games on the same day.
However, both days saw some excellent skilled play, which was a pleasure to watch, in very close and hard fought matches. Dave and Lesley Beard did especially well taking both mixed pairs competitions, the Fixed jack, the Ladies two woods and the Men’s Singles between them while the Ladies Singles was won by Daphne Dodgson.
The date for the match to find the clubs champion of champions is provisionally set for this Friday evening during club night. The club would like to congratulate all the contestants and to thank all those who gave their time and effort into making the weekend such a success.
A special word of thanks to those who worked so hard to provide food and refreshments over the two days without which these events would not have the same auspicious atmosphere.
Fixtures for the week include another FFC against Norwest, the Ladies at Wells and Frome Selwood plus the Men CL at Frome Park.
Finally a reminder of the MacMillan charity Tea Party on the 9th September at 3pm.
