The full interview can be found at https://www.spreaker.com/show/sounds-of-the-sea. The interview starts with Dave describing to Ian how the Club came to play at Southfields Recreation Ground.

The club originally played at Round Hill, not where the Round Hill ground is now, it’s where the rectory was, behind the rectory, up until the First World War. At the end of the First World War the club wanted to restart but, unfortunately, there wasn’t anywhere for them to play. So, the Council stepped in and bought what was ‘South Field’ from Coombs Brewery who were a big brewer, they were brewing down behind The Bell [Hotel] and in Oakhill. They bought the field off of them and Radstock started again after the First World War in 1920-21. The first game at Southfield was the 10th of September in that year and an FA Cup game against Warminster Town. Warminster had been playing right through, so it was Radstock’s first game apart from friendlies for a few years. Radstock won 1–0, a crowd of 700 attended and the committee were very pleased, by accounts, by the gate takings and very encouraged for the future. So, thanks to Warminster Town for giving us that start!

Next week Dave will be talking about the Club’s relationship with the local Mining industry. If anyone has any information, photographs, old programmes, newspaper articles or medals concerning the history of Radstock Town Football Club, then Dave would like to hear from you, as he continues to compile the Club’s history.
