Lady Captains Day at Mendip, was a very colourful affair with the day’s theme being flowers and the entrants joined in enthusiastically with flowers attached to the players and their equipment.
The competitions were limited to nine holes, due to the extreme heat. With the front nine event being won by Chris Williams/Jenny Merrett, and Margaret Hawker with forty points, and the back nine by Sarah James/Chris Olds, and Julie Doyle, with forty one points. As always a very social event, with celebrations continuing into the evening over an excellent high tea.
The Ladies Alliance B Team, visited a very parched Weston and went down 6-8, wins coming from Jenny Merrett, Anne Hopkins, and Jan Fukuyama. The ICL Team, were away to Cricket St Thomas, and lost 2-5 this time wins, coming from Lynn Cox and Lulu Carolan.
Finally, the friendly team, including two ladies new to the game, and playing their first rounds of golf away from Mendip visited Wells, and won a close match 2½-1½. Wins came from Lilian Peel/Pauline Williams, and Anne Padley/Eileen Masters, with Gina Howard, and Pippa Brown gaining a half.
Nearest the Pin this week, went go Tony Scott, with Steve Davis second, and Andy Griffiths third.
Omitted from last weeks’ report on the Seniors Monthly Stableford, was that Chris Giles won the veterans prize with forty points, Martin Wilkins was second with thirty nine, and Colin Davies third with thirty eight.
The Seniors entertained Yeovil, and ran out 4½-1½ winners. Successful for Mendip were Kevin Carmody/Robert Miller, John Ellis/Tony George, and Stephen Cox/Malcolm Dawkins, with Alan Edwards/Derek Bellew, Steve Davis/Andy Humphries, and Simon Brand/Paul Ashman gaining halves. They then had Wells as visitors, who brought a very strong team who proved too good for Mendip on the day winning 4-2. Mendip’s wins came from Tony Scott/Martin Sutherland, and Selwyn Rees/Keith Beasley. Tony Williams
