The points were shared in this terrific game of football at West Clewes, in which both sides played their part with excellent football and top-drawer goals, which sent the crowd home well satisfied.

After a heavy rain shower at lunchtime, the game got underway on a very heavy pitch and Welton were soon in the action, with a header from Anthony Conradi going just wide of the target and following good play by James Cooper, that found Dan Cottle in space on the left, the youngster's first- time effort was only inches wide of the target.

Wincanton keeper, John Hill, then saved with his legs to deny Cottle as Welton pressed for the opening goal. The visitors' first effort of the game was a long-range shot from full back, Danny Golden.

The goalfest started in the sixteenth minute, when the ball fell to Jamie Taylor 25 yards out and he struck a stunning shot that kept low, beat the keeper and flew into the Wincanton net to give Welton the lead.

Two minutes later, Welton were two goals up. This time, Taylor was found on the left, he turned his marker and curled in an absolutely quality shot that crashed into the far corner of the goal. Wincanton

responded and a corner on the right by Golden was met by Captain, Mike Taylor, who rose above the Welton defence and his bullet header flew into the Welton net.

The visitors continued to press for the equaliser and it came in spectacular fashion in the 35th minute. Lee Gale was found in space, deep out on the right, looked up and fired in a great shot that flew over Andy King, in the Welton goal, and crashed into the net to score a quality goal.

Five minutes later, Welton regained the lead when good play from Cottle on the left saw him deliver a cross that was met first time by Tom Pawley, who struck a fantastic shot that roared into the Wincanton net to end a half of football that was one of the best seen at West Clewes for a long time.

The second half began in dramatic fashion, when the dangerous Gale was brought down in the Welton area and the referee had no hesitation in awarding the visitors a penalty.

Up stepped Ren Turnock and he sent King the wrong way as his shot flew into the bottom right corner of the net to equalise for Wincanton. Welton's Taylor then picked up a knock and was substituted by Ashley Victor Lewis.

Both sides were going all out for the all-important next goal. Welton had two corners on the trot, but the Wincanton defence cleared the danger.

A good run from Dave O'Hare into the Welton box saw him shoot wide at the vital moment. Then, good play by Cooper saw his curled shot fly inches past the Wincanton far post. In the end, neither side could break the deadlock, despite their best efforts and the points were shared.
