A team of twelve students from Jamie Woodland’s Black Belt Academy recently travelled to Warwickshire to compete in a national open martial arts tournament.
The event saw competitors taking part from all around the UK, and the competition was of a very high standard.
Students from the club took part in various disciplines, including patterns and weapons, where they would individually perform sequences of technique to a judging panel and sparring, where there was the option of points style, as well as a continuous style, which to spectators would resemble kickboxing.
The group were all successful in their categories, and the day finished with twenty top three places across the team, including many Golds.
Club instructor, Jamie Woodland, who was also competing, says he was very proud of the attitude and determination of the team, who demonstrated respect and discipline throughout.
He said: “The students were representing the Academy and all did so in tremendous style and made us all very proud to be part of the club. Well done everyone!”
