One of the main jobs as Ladies Vice-Captain is to organise the Mixed Competitions at the golf club. So, Bobby Appleby, Ladies Vice-Captain and Mixed Organiser, was pleased to find the whole course open on Sunday, 4th January.
Forty players arrived to play an individual Stableford, with an optional two spot. Some excellent scores were recorded, with Pauline Brixey gaining nine points on the seventeenth to come in with 46 points, as did Carl Dezis. Terri O'Shea, Liz Thomas and Mandy Hobbs came in with 42 points, Jon Calway had 41, along with Simon Elliott. Paul Thomas and Garry Padfield had forty points. Everyone agreed the course played amazingly well considering the weather. Jon Calway was drawn with Didi Ager, together scoring 78 points, they came third on countback from Rob Thain and Mandy Hobbs. In second place, drawn together with 79 points, were Mark Wintersgill and Terri O'Shea, and in first place, drawn together, Rob Riccio and Liz Thomas, with 80 points. They were presented with the 'Cilla' Trophy (red felt heart with silver embroidery and a silver arrow through the middle). Rob Riccio's remark on receiving the trophy with Liz was: "That's not touching any shelf in my home," let's hope Paul Thomas doesn't mind the Red Heart on his shelf!! Rob and Liz thanked everyone for playing and the clubhouse staff for looking after everyone.
The next Mixed is on 1st February, format is six holes Greensome, six holes Foursomes and six Holes Texas Scramble. The March Mixed is on 1st March and will be a drawn fun competition. The Mixed information board is straight ahead as you enter the Sports Bar.
