Paulton Bowls Club's successful season keeps on at a pace. On Sunday, in a mixed event, Paulton beat local rivals, Purnell and Bath, to secure the PPB Cup for the first time in five years.

The annual triangular match is a one-day event played over twelve rinks, with one session of six rinks in the morning and following lunch, another in the afternoon. Paulton, who were runners-up last year, got their hands on the cup by winning on shot difference. Thank you to all who took part and made it a memorable day.

More success for Paulton – a trio of Paulton Men, Bob Gay, Roger Jones and George Thayer, went one better than their Bloomfield Triples runners-up and won the Spencer Moulton Triples. Well done, gentlemen.

After two bad defeats in the County League, Paulton's Men were looking to get back on a winning track on Saturday, facing village rivals, Purnell B. This was always going to be a difficult task, as the majority of Paulton Men play for Purnell Indoor Bowls Club during the winter months, it was more like an internal club fixture than a league one.

The ever-present Chris Skinner had his current form rewarded with his first outing as Skip this season and he did not fail, leading his rink to a good win. The ever-reliable Bob Gay had a crushing win on his rink. Game of the day belonged to Skips, Bob Richards, and Purnell's John Hansford. With excellent bowls from both sides, the result went to the last wood, with Bob Richards just failing to draw the winning wood and the rink ended in a draw.

Paulton triumphed with an eleven points to one win over Purnell and more importantly, bragging rights until next year! A special mention for the three members who put in the hard work and prepared the green for this game, thank you.

With two games remaining, and with other results going Paulton's way, there is still a mathematical chance of promotion. So, a lot still to play for Paulton!
