Our Somerset Junior bowlers have been out in force again this weekend with games on both Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday it was the Under-18’s Open Singles competition and fifteen youngsters took to the green to provide the spectators with some excellent entertainment, and although the green was a little on the heavy side after the overnight rain, the quality of the bowling certainly didn’t suffer.
Primarily, it was a Singles game, with the losers of the first round going on to play in a Pairs competition.
Congratulations go to both Singles finalists: Jacob Crouch (Illminster) the winner and Kimi Powell (Congresbury) the runner-up. Well done, lads.
The Pairs competition saw local club, Norwest, with two players in the final alongside two players from Congresbury, but as they were on opposing sides, the competition was fierce. The winners were Chloe Holmes (Norwest) and Lucas Powell (Congresbury) while the runners-up were Jack Vine (Norwest) with Zachary Broom (Congresbury).
On Sunday, Somerset, including local youngsters, Chloe Holmes (Norwest) and Cameron Bowen (Purnell), took on rival county, Devon, for an Inter County Juniors’ competition. As Devon turned up with three players short, it was quite a headache for the team managers, but when all was sorted, we were once again treated to a brilliant display of bowls from both teams with Somerset claiming victory overall. Well done Somerset, great result!
Thanks go to the organisers and also Ashcombe Bowls Club for their hospitality for both games. Overall, a great big thank you and well done to all of our young bowlers for a very entertaining and exciting weekend. NH
