Sponsored by Mick and Liz Dempsey of The Ram pub in Widcombe, Bloomfield Bowls Club hosted their now very popular and competitive annual novice lawn bowls tournament.

Weather conditions were perfect for the day’s events, which included each team linking with a rink manager, who is an experienced bowler from the club. The rink managers delivered instruction on how to deliver their woods and then steered their team through a round robin competition.

The tournament is proving so popular that eight teams of four novice bowlers from around Bath and a team from Weymouth played in the competition.

The overall winner and picking up the Cup and individual trophies were Vowelsies Victors from Bath, with a team of young bowlers also of Bath, Zak’s Boys, collecting the runners-up medals.

Gren Ingleson of Bloomfield, the match co-ordinator said: “This event is to introduce the sport to new bowlers, many of the players have never seen a bowl, let alone delivered one, as soon as they stepped onto the green the competitive edge and the will to win kicked in. It was a superb day and I’d like to thank our sponsors at the Ram for their fantastic support.”

Should you wish to look into having a go at lawn bowls, please contact Bloomfield Bowls on: 01225 425825 or come to the club on Monday evenings and speak to any member about trying the sport.
