As another outdoor bowls season comes to a close, it ends, as always, with the local Charity Floodlight Bowls Competition.
Paulton, Prattens, Norwest, Purnell, Frome Park and Frome Selwood are the clubs that take part, and it has been running for eleven years, raising over £30,000 for local and national charities.
Purnell, Norwest and Frome Selwood would like to thank all their neighbours for their patience while the floodlights are on, it is only a few hours every year, but it is all for good charities which really need the money.
This year, a wonderful £1,400 was raised by the players and clubs; the charity being The Children’s Hospital, Bristol.
The Final this year was played at Purnell between Frome and Purnell, with the hosts coming out on top – but it’s not all about winning; the bowlers love the friendship and the relaxed atmosphere at the end of a long season.
Captain of Purnell, Colin Toogood, received the Mike Bowell Cup from committee members, Trevor Francis and Bryn Hawkins. I would like to thank all the clubs that took part, and Purnell for putting on an excellent meal after the Final.
Bryn Hawkins
