Saturday morning was supposed to be the pre-season meeting for Prattens Bowls Club.
Given the current situation with COVID-19, it was decided that it was not a good idea to fill this space with a number of pensioners, a few key workers for the NHS and fire service, as well as some additional members, so the meeting was cancelled.
Bowls England and the Somerset Bowls Association have also decided that the bowls season will not start until the current crisis is resolved and that all league matches should be cancelled until further notice. This also includes the county wide Open Day that was to take place on May 2nd that was to include participation by Prattens.
Bowls England have issued a number of recommendations and decisions designed to ensure that the Bowls Clubs are still in operation when bowling is allowed to start again, including suggesting
that members should continue to pay subscriptions to clubs even though games cannot be played and stating that Bowls England will refund the affiliation fees for 2020 to the member clubs through the County Associations.
It is good to see that bowlers and the governing bodies will stand together to
ensure the continuation of this fine sport. In the meantime, may I wish the best of health to all bowlers (and anyone else reading this) and I hope to see you all as soon as it is safe to do so.
